INDIA’S VICTORY OVER SOUTH AFRICA
After opting to bat first, India posted a good score of 176/7 in their allotted 20 overs with Virat Kohli top-scoring with his innings of 76 (59). In reply, South Africa could only reach 169/8 in their 20 overs with Hardik Pandya (3/20) successfully defending 15 runs for India in the final over.
As a result, India emerged victorious in the thrilling encounter and brought an end to their 11-year-long ICC Trophy drought. The Men in Blue last won a major title in 2013 by clinching the Champions Trophy in England also under Dhoni’s leadership and had lost five finals since then.
However, they managed to hold their nerve against South Africa and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to send the entire nation into a frenzy. The entire country awaits the return of World Champions who as promised ‘raised the national flag’ in Barbados by winning the final.
