Yogi Adityanath takes oath as UP CM for historic second term

Lucknow, Mar 25, 2022: Yogi Adityanath took oath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second consecutive term on Friday, March 25. The oath was administered by Governor Anandiben Patel.

Yogi Adityanath has become the first chief minister of Uttar Pradesh to return to power after completing a full tenure of five years.

Meanwhile, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak also took oath as the deputy chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh. Even though KP Maurya lost the Assembly elections, he has been retained as the deputy CM, while Brajesh Pathak has replaced Dinesh Sharma.

 


Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the event. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP national president JP Nadda and several Union Ministers were present at the grand ceremony in Lucknow. Chief Ministers of the BJP-ruling states and party leaders also attended the oath-taking ceremony.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

The Bharatiya Janata Party won a decisive majority in the recently concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. With 255 seats in its kitty, the Yogi Adityanath-led party was well past the required mark of 202 to win the right to lead the 403-seat assembly.
