Mangalore Today News Network / News18

Bengaluru, Sep 11, 2023: Former Cricketer Anil Kumble had to resort to a bus ride back home from the airport as cabs have become unavailable in Bengaluru amid strikes. The Karnataka State Private Vehicles Owner Association has called for Bengaluru Bandh as they are opposing the Shakti scheme. The private transport operators have claimed that the scheme will impact their profit. Kumble took to his official ‘X’ handle and shared a selfie of himself traveling in the bus. In no time, the image went viral and garnered multiple responses on the social media platform.

“BMTC trip back home today from the airport,” wrote Kumble as he shared the image. He can be seen holding a handle for support. He is not the only one traveling in the bus. A few other people can be seen commuting through the vehicle.

“Excellent. Elites of society using public transport is good for society. And Kumble is gold standard anyway,” commented an ‘X’ user. Another person wrote, “We need icons to advertise public transport like this. That way, we will have less traffic.”

“What cab strike can do 🙂 When our celebrities discover the convenience of bus and promote it, great things will happen! Hope he supports #Personal2Public,” commented another person.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Transport Department has made certain arrangements to tackle the strike. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Sunday said the state transport department is preparing to operate multiple buses. “We have arranged BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) buses for school-going children, office-going people and for those who’re going to hospitals. BMTC has arranged around 500 extra buses. Nothing will happen. They (private transport) are going for a strike, let them, they have the right to do so," Mr Reddy said.
