Mysuru, May 25, 2023: Mysuru MP and BJP leader Pratap Simha asked people not to pay electricity bills from June 1, if their consumption was below 200 units, citing the Congress promise of providing free power to every household if voted to power in Karnataka.
In its poll manifesto, the Congress had promised 200 units of free power to every household. When Congress ousted the BJP in Karnataka by winning 135 seats and Siddaramaiah took oath as the chief minister, the party promised to implement all its guarantees soon.
Now, the BJP has given the new government time till June 1 to implement the schemes without any conditions. If the free power scheme is not implemented by next month, the BJP will taketo the streets.
BJP MP Pratap Simha annouced that he will stage a protest in the Mysuru-Kodagu region demanding the implementation of the free power scheme. He said if the consumption was higher, then the first 200 units should be treated as free and only the difference amount should be paid.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, the BJP leader said, "From June 1 , if you use less than 200 units power, please don’t pay the bill. Siddaramaiah said it would be free for him too. He’s not poor, so that means it’s free for all. From June 1, I’ll start a protest in Mysuru and Kodagu regions."
"The Congress said they would give free power. Don’t pay the bill if it’s less than 200 units," he added.
