’Every Indian sees you as a true friend’: PM Modi meets UAE president in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, July 15, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday and announced the initiation of trade settlement between India and the UAE in their respective currencies. He also told the UAE president that every Indian sees him as a "true friend".

"The agreement signed on Saturday for trade settlement in the currencies of both countries signifies the strong economic cooperation and mutual trust between India and the UAE," the prime minister said, adding that the agreement will also boost bilateral trade and investments.

 


"I am happy to be in Abu Dhabi and to meet you. I thank you for the warm welcome... Every Indian sees you as a true friend," the prime minister told the UAE president.

PM Modi, who is on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), also highlighted that India-UAE trade has grown by 20% since the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement last year.
"Our bilateral trade has grown by 20%. For the first time, we have achieved $85 billion trade and soon we will achieve the target of $100 billion. If we decide, we can cross this milestone before the G20," he said.

PM Modi also clarified his intention to participate in the forthcoming COP-28 conference, which is being organized under the leadership of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Prime Minister assured full support for the UAE’s COP-28 presidency and highlighted India’s efforts and initiatives to address climate change.

Expressing gratitude, PM Modi conveyed his appreciation for the warm brotherhood he received from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, acknowledging the significant contribution of the UAE President in expanding the ties between the two nations.

He also highlighted the growing friendship between India and the UAE, stating that every person in India views Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as a true friend.

Taking to Twitter to mark his talks, PM Modi wrote, "It is always gladdening to meet HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. His energy and vision for development are admirable. We discussed the full range of India-UAE ties including ways to boost cultural and economic ties."
