New Delhi, Jan 18, 2023: BJP MP Tejasvi Surya opened the emergency exit of an IndiGo plane by mistake and he has already apologised, said Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday.
IndiGo, in a statement on Tuesday, said a passenger travelling on flight 6E 7339 from Chennai to Tiruchirapalli on December 10 accidentally opened the emergency exit during the boarding process, when the plane was on the tarmac. The Congress slammed Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya after reports claimed he was the passenger who "accidentally" opened the emergency exit.
"He has already apologised. The door was opened by him by mistake. Whatever opposition is saying, I can’t reply to that," Scindia said when asked about Tejasvi Surya’s involvement in the incident.
A senior official at aviation regulator DGCA on Tuesday said the event was duly reported and that no safety was compromised. The aircraft, which was on the ground, was subject to mandatory engineering checks before it flew to Tiruchirapalli that day.
Neither Tejasvi Surya nor his office have reacted to the allegations so far.
