New Delhi, Apr 09, 2019 : Former Indian captain Gautam Gambhir and former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti were locked in a Twitter battle after the People’s Democratic Party chief tweeted that if Article 370 of the Constitution is scrapped, it would end the association of J&K with India.

In the past, too, she had commented that J&K will cease to be a part of India if Article 370 is tampered with. She followed her tweet with a famous couplet, “Na samjho gay tou mit jaouge aye Hindustan walo. Tumhari dastaan tak bhi na hogi dastaano main.” The couplet, from a poem by Allama Iqbal, is a cautionary note and when translated in English, roughly means: Hey, people of Hindustan, you will die if you don’t understand even now, and your memory too would be wiped out from history.
Gambhir, who has recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, tweeted in reply, “This is India, not a stain like you that can be wiped out.” Mufti retorted, calling Gambhir a failed cricketer and termed his cricketing career ‘abysmal’. Then she went on to block the cricketer-turned-politician on Twitter.
Gambhir again hit back by dubbing her a ‘callous individual’ and asked how would she block 1,365,386,456 Indians (the population of the nation)?
The 37-year-old cricketer-turned-politician is known for his combative nature on and off the field. There is speculation that he could be the BJP’s candidate for New Delhi seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
