Mar 30, 2017: Menstruating women should not enter places of worship, a senior Congress leader from Kerala said on Tuesday.
“Menstruation is impure and during this period women should not enter temples. There is a scientific reason behind the instruction that women shouldn’t enter (temples) during this period,” MM Hassan said at a public function in Thiruvananthapuram.
He added that his statements shouldn’t be read any other way.
During this period (menstruating), Muslim women don’t observe fast. My opinion is that women shouldn’t go to the temple, mosque or church when their body is impure.
A former Kerala minister, Hassan was appointed the interim president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) after VM Sudheeran quit the post.
