Bengaluru, Jul 13 2017, DH News: Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) D Roopa has accused her boss, Director General of Police (Prisons) H N Sathyanarayana Rao, of taking monetary benefits from the high-profile prisoner and AIADMK leader V Sasikala for providing her VIP treatment at Bengaluru Central Prisons at Parappana Agrahara.
On Wednesday, Roopa, an IPS officer of 2000 batch, submitted a report to the state police chief Rupak Kumar Dutta and the Anti-Corruption Bureau, accusing Rao and other senior staff of the prison of indulging in gross irregularities and corrupt practices. Rao is one of the senior most IPS officers in the state.
In the report submitted to Director General and Inspector General of Police, Roopa sought a detailed probe into gross violations of prison rules, including corrupt practices in prison.
She stated that Rao and a few other senior officials have received Rs 2 crore from Sasikala’s aides for providing VIP treatment to her in the jail.
It emerged that Sasikala has been provided with an inmate as a cook and to do her daily chores. The prison staff have also helped her set up a kitchen in her cell, which amounts to gross violation of prison rules and manual.
Roopa, in her report, highlighted violation of eight prison rules. She stated that Sasikala has been getting special treatment and there are allegations that Rs 2 crore has changed hands between her aides and senior jail officials. Hence, it is imperative and his (DGP Prisons’) responsibility that he clear his name of these allegations, she mentioned in her report.
Meanwhile, Rao told DH: “Sasikala is a prisoner as good as other women prisoners and she has not been given any special treatment. She (Roopa) has gone to the press and is making false and baseless allegations. We believe that she is doing it for getting some publicity. There is no report submitted to anybody, not even a verbal one. I have issued her a memoin regard to a few issues including her not attending the chief minister’s review meeting held recently.”
