1,171 dengue cases, nine deaths reported in Delhi in last one week

New Delhi, Nov 08, 2021: The total number of dengue cases reported in Delhi so far has reached 2,708. 1,171 cases were reported in the last one week. South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has informed that so far 9 people have died of dengue.

 

Aedes mosquito is the vector for transmission of dengue. This mosquito breeds mainly in house water containers, storage tanks, drums, cement tanks, flower pots, money plants, etc.

The SDMC’S Public Health Department carries out cleaning drives on regular basis to control vector-borne diseases. In continuation, the Department has carried a special drive against vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya. The Corporation launched a special 3-day drive against vector mosquitoes from November 5 with a focus on the high-risk areas.

The high risk areas are identified as Tuglakabad Extension, Tuglakabad village, Gautam Nagar, Mehrauli, Mohammadpur Village, JJ Colony, Ali Vihar, Jaitpur, Badarpur, Batla House, Kotla Mubarakpur, G-2 Block, Sangam Vihar, Govindpuri, Hauz Rani, Malviya Nagar, Pushpa Vihar-Sector-1,3, Dakshinpuri, Palam village (Harijan Basti), Raj Nagar (P Block), Rangpuri Pahari (Inder Camp), Mahipalpur village (Harijan Basti), Jiwan Park, Mohan Garden (N Block), Mahavir Enclave (Part-3), R Block-Raghubir Nagar, JJ colony, Madipur, Punjabi Bagh Extension, Basaidarapur mostly unauthorised colonies and villages.

The department distributed 15,700 handbills, put up 6,780 stickers, carried out publicity, and checked 35,400 houses/buildings. Out of these 35,400 houses, 254 houses/buildings were found positive for mosquito breeding. 15,430 houses have been fogged and sprayed with insecticides to kill adult mosquitoes. In addition to in-house fogging and spray, the department has fogged the high-risk localities by vehicle-mounted Tiffa machines also known as outdoor fogging operation during morning and evening time.

In addition to the anti-mosquito measures, the department issued 270 legal notices and 76 challans against the offenders where mosquito breeding was detected. It has been observed during the campaign that mosquito breeding has been detected mostly inside house containers, flower pots, money plants, tanks, drums, and haudis due to ambient environmental temperature inside houses. Hence, the residents are advised to empty these containers and cover the containers properly using lids or cover them with a cloth to prevent mosquito breeding and mosquito bite.
