Secunderabad, June 17, 2022: One person was killed, 13 were hurt and one other person was critically injured after police in Secunderabad opened fire on those protesting against the Agnipath scheme at the Secunderabad railway station.
Damodar, a native of Warangal, succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the police firing. Policemen rushed him to the hospital after he was shot, but Damodar couldn’t be saved.
Tensions over the Centre’s Agnipath Army recruitment scheme reached Telangana’s Hyderabad on Friday.
National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) workers pelted stones at the trains in the Secunderabad railway station on Friday, June 17. Protesters also set a train on fire inside the railway station.
The situation only got tenser as the protesters started fires, which began to grow larger even as the stone pelting continued. Students could also be seen running into the railway station and pelting stones at the trains.
Protests against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme have also been raging across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, leaving a trail of vehicles being destroyed and trains being set ablaze.
Protesting students and youngsters in Bihar took to pelting stones, vandalising vehicles and setting fire to trains. Police arrested 16 protesters for vandalism, looting and arson at a railway station and booked 650 unidentified people on Thursday.
