1 dead, 36 admitted to hospital in Karnataka after consuming contaminated water

Chitradurga, Aug 02, 2023: A 23-year-old woman died and more than 50 people fell ill after allegedly consuming contaminated water in Chitradurga on Monday night, said district officials. 36 people have been admitted to a district hospital and Basaveshwara Medical College and Hospital in Chitradurga.

 

The deceased has been identified as Manjula. The woman did not respond to treatment after being admitted to the hospital on Monday night and died. The people admitted to the hospital have reportedly complained of vomiting and diarrhoea.

15 of the 36 hospitalised got treatment from the outpatient department. The condition of a child and a woman is said to be critical. Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu and SP Parushurama visited the district hospital where people were admitted.

Residents alleged that the overhead tank wasn’t cleaned by the municipal corporation authorities for several years. The locals pointed out that people who fell sick belonged to two streets.
