Noida, Mar 26, 2016: A 10-year-old boy died and two members of his family were seriously injured after they were hit by a car Thursday night near Noida sector 49.
The incident took place when the family — Arun Mishra, his son Ankit, wife Mamta and brother-in-law Amresh — was on its way back home after visiting a temple in sector 40, said police. “Ankit was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead. Ankit’s mother and uncle sustained serious injuries and they are being treated in Prayag Hospital,” said Station House Officer Zaheer Khan of Section 39 police station.
The family said they were walking towards an auto stand when they were hit by the car, which was travelling in the wrong direction.
“My wife, son and brother-in-law were walking ahead... I suddenly saw my wife fall to the ground. I couldn’t understand what had happened... when I went closer, I realised they had been hit by a car. The driver had not even honked and the headlights of the car were switched off,” said Arun Mishra.
“Ankit sustained multiple injuries and was bleeding profusely... he probably died on the spot,” said Mishra.
The driver of the car, identified as 25-year-old Divam Kapoor, was arrested on the spot.
A case has been registered in Noida Sector 39 police station under sections 304 A (causing death by negligence), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 278 (rash driving or riding on a public way).
On whether the driver was drunk, the SHO said, “Medical test of the accused confirmed that he did not consume alcohol at the time of the incident. However, we have arrested the accused and the investigation is ongoing.”
The accused is a student, said Khan, adding, “Divam told us he was trying to avoid a collision with a motorcycle and lost control of his vehicle.” A bystander, Ajay Veram, also sustained injuries in the incident. His condition is stable, said police.
