100 people suffer food poisoning after baptism ceremony in Kerala; case filed, probe underway

Pathanamthitta, Jan 02, 2023: As many as 100 people, who had attended a baptism ceremony in Kerala, suffered from food poisoning on Thursday last week, December 29. Police officials have filed a case against the catering service company and health minister Veena George has ordered a probe into the matter.

A baptism ceremony took place in Pathanamthitta district’s Keezhvaipur village last week and many people attended it. Over 100 people who had attended the function suffered from food poisoning and were admitted to various hospitals in the area.

Keezhvaipur police have registered a case against the catering service company under Sections 268, 272 and 269 of the Indian Penal Code, on the basis of a complaint filed by the man who organised the event.

Kerala health minister Veena George, on Monday, also ordered a probe after reports emerged of 100 people being subjected to food poisoning.

Further investigations are currently underway.
