12 killed as speeding truck rams into crowd in Bihar’s Vaishali, PM grants Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia

Patna, Nov 21, 2022: At least 12 people including several children were killed on Sunday after a speeding truck rammed into a crowd in Bihar’s Vaishali district. The accident took place in Vaishali district’s Mehnar village.

Following the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of the deceased and a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the injured.

The prime minister also wished a speedy recovery to all those who were injured in the accident.

 


Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also expressed his condolences and said he is "deeply saddened" by the accident. The chief minister gave instructions to provide ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. He also asked all the authorities concerned to give proper treatment to all the injured and wished for their speedy recovery.

His deputy Tejashwi Yadav also took to Twitter and said, "May God give peace to the departed souls and strength to their families to bear this loss."

President Droupadi Murmu called the accident "extremely painful" and wished for a speedy recovery to the injured.

Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai also wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in this road accident.

BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain took to Twitter to express his condolences to the families of the victims who died in the accident.

Former MP and Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) president asked the government and the administration to provide immediate help to all the victims and said "all our workers are ready to protect lives and property there!"

Meanwhile, police have detained the driver and helper of the truck. Vaishali SP said whether the driver was drunk or not would be ascertained only after a medical examination.
