Dharwad, June 17, 2022: As many as 150 government school students were rescued after being stranded for a few hours in Amaragol village in Karnataka’s Dharwad district. The region received four hours of incessant rain that led to a flood-like situation.
While the teachers and students waited for the rain to stop to return home, there was no let-up in the downpour, resulting in flooding in the nearby stream.
The students and teachers, trapped inside the school building, were rescued by panchayat officials and local residents. The panchayat officials also made arrangements for the safety of the children and ensured a supply of food and water for them.
Apart from Dharwad, other districts such as Belagavi, Bidar and Koppal have also received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. According to the India Meteorological Department, moderate to heavy rain will continue in the Uttara Kannada region till June 20.
During heavy rainfall, several agricultural fields were also submerged in Belagavi. The capital Bengaluru also received moderate to heavy showers over most parts of the city last evening. Several roads were inundated due to overnight showers.
