Dhaka, Mar 07, 2023: At least 16 people were killed and over 120 were injured in an explosion at a multi-storied building in Dhaka’s Gulistan area in Bangladesh.
The incident took place at around 4 pm on Tuesday. 11 fire services emergency units are at the location and rescue operations are underway. Injured people have been rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. DMCH Director Brig Gen Md Nazmul Haque said around 120 people had sustained injuries in the explosion.
Hafiz Akter, the additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said on Tuesday evening, “We have to cut through the concrete to rescue them. The fire service is working on it.”
The building, located in the busy Siddique Bazaar, was a commercial building with several offices and stores.
The blast reportedly took place in a store selling sanitation materials on the ground floor of the five-storey building.
This is the third blast in a week to claim lives after explosions at an oxygen plant in Sitakunda and another building on Mirpur Road in Dhaka.
