Barabanki, Jul 28, 2021: At least 18 people were killed and several injured after a speeding truck hit their bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki early on Wednesday.
The accident occurred on the Ayodhya-Lucknow highway near Ram Sanehi Police Station in Barabanki. According to the police, there were 140 people on the bus. All of them were labourers who were travelling from Palwal in Haryana to Bihar.
The police said the bus was stationed at a dhaba near Ram Sanehi Ghat police station after its axle broke down. Suddenly, a speeding truck came and rammed into the bus, killing 18 people on the spot.
The police team reached the spot and rescued people stuck under the bus.
ADG Lucknow SN Sabat said, "An accident happened at night in Barabanki in which 18 labourers from Bihar were killed. They were from Darbhanga, Sitamarhi and places in Bihar. More than two dozen are injured who are being treated at Lucknow trauma centre."
The police are in the process of registering a case.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He also directed the district administration to provide free medical care and related help to the injured.Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance of Rs two lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
