2 Kerala doctors die as car falls into river, were using Google map amid heavy rain

Kochi, Oct 02, 2023: Two doctors died and three others were injured on Sunday when a car they were travelling in plunged into the Periyar river in Kerala’s Kochi, police said. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.

 

Advaith, 29, and Ajmal, 29, both working at a private hospital in the district, died in the accident that occurred at around 12.30 AM. It was raining heavily and Advaith, who was at the wheel, turned the GPS tracking on. They reached a heavily waterlogged area and Google Maps navigated straight into it and they followed the instructions leading to the car sinking in the river.

"The visibility was very low at the time due to heavy rain. They were following a route shown by the Google map. But it seems like instead of taking a left turn as suggested by the maps, they mistakenly went forward and fell into the river," the police said as quoted by news agency PTI.
