2 Naxals killed in encounter with security forces on Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border

Mumbai, Dec 23, 2022: Two Naxals, including a woman, were killed in an encounter with security forces this morning during a joint operation by Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli Police and Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur Police in the jungles on the border of the two states. The others fled into the jungles and officials suspect there could be more casualties.

 

Officials from the C-60 unit of the Gadchiroli Police and the DRG of Bijapur Police were patrolling the areas with dense cover in the Damrancha forest area when they were fired upon by the Naxals. They used automatic rifles and the security forces retaliated.

Bodies of the two Naxalites were found at the encounter site and a search operation is still on in the area, Gadchiroli’s Superintendent of Police, Neelotpal, said.

Patrol operations by teams of Gadchiroli police and Bijapur police are still being carried out in the Damrancha forest.
