Yadgiri, Aug 09, 2023: Yadgiri police arrested two men for posting provocative videos on social media calling for "beheading those who disrespect Prophet Muhammad".

Arrested

The two accused -- Akbar Syed Bahadur Ali (23) and Md Ayaz (21) were arrested under Sections 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot) and 505/2 (statements promoting enmity between classes) of the Indian Penal Code.

The two men had uploaded several videos on social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, and Threads, urging people to kill "kafirs" (Kafiron ke sar tan se juda kar deni chahiye), said the Superintendent of Yadgiri Police. In these videos, the duo emphasised that disrespect to Allah is unacceptable and that hell is the only appropriate place for "kafirs."

One of the men, Akbar Syed, has an Instagram account with over 9,000 followers where he posted provocative videos. The Yadigiri SP said he was an employee of the Kohinoor Solar company. Ayaz ran a chicken shop, added the SP.

After the videos went viral on social media, Hindu groups urged authorities to file an FIR and arrest the two. Mohan Gowda, a senior leader of the Hindu Jana Jagurthi Samithi, said police must file an FIR against the individual responsible for promoting violence and inciting violence.

The Yadgiri Police later announced that they had been arrested.
