20 Feared Dead as Gorakhdham Express Rams Goods Train in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, May 26, 2014:  20 people are feared dead after the Gorakhdham Express rammed a stationary goods train near Khalilabad in Uttar Pradesh. At least 10 passengers were injured.

train The incident took place this morning when the express train came on the same track as the goods train near Churaid Railway Station at the Sant Kabirnagar district some 230 km from state capital Lucknow. Six bogies derailed.

Railway Board Chairman Arunendra Kumar said, "Relief work has begun, there are casualties but the exact figure is not known yet."

Rajnath Singh, who will be sworn in as part of the Narendra Modi cabinet today, tweeted his condolences for those who have been killed.
