Bengaluru, January 6, 2025: A 20-year-old man allegedly strangled his 42-year-old mother before dying by suicide at their home in Anekal, on Bengaluru’s southern outskirts, the police said on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Ramesh and his mother, Lakshmidevi. The incident came to light when Ramesh’s father returned home around 11 pm on Saturday.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Ramesh apparently strangled Lakshmidevi with a saree before killing himself. The police are yet to ascertain the motive or the exact timing of the crime. Ramesh reportedly returned home around 1 pm on Saturday and did not leave the house thereafter.
“The neighbours described the family as peace-loving and not prone to frequent arguments or fights. We suspect Ramesh may have returned home intoxicated and gotten into a heated argument with his mother, leading to the tragic incident,” a police investigator said.
The police have sent both the bodies for postmortem and recovered the saree suspected to have been used in the crime. Samples have also been collected from the scene by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team. Authorities have ruled out the involvement of any outsiders as no signs of forced entry or intrusion were found.
The Suryacity police have registered a murder case against Ramesh and launched a detailed probe.
The family, originally from Challakere in Chitradurga district, had moved to Bengaluru a few years ago. Ramesh was unemployed, while his father works as a labourer. Lakshmidevi was a homemaker.
