New Delhi, May 30: A Delhi court rejected the bail plea of Cineyug Films Director Karim Morani, an accused in the 2G spectrum case.
Rejecting Morani’s bail plea, filed on medical grounds, Special CBI Judge O P Saini sent him to judicial custody for 14 days. The department of Cardiology and Neurosurgery of Mumbai’s JJ Hospital in its report had submitted that Morani’s condition is "stable and normal".
Morani had filed his regular bail plea on May 24 after the court had denied anticipatory bail and directed him to appear before it.
He will now join other accused in the case in Tihar Jail. Mohammed Morani brother of Karim Morani told a news channel that a appeal will be filed in the High Court against the rejection of the bail plea.
During the arguments on bail, CBI prosecutor A K Singh said that Morani facilitated the transaction of Rs 200 crore from DB Realty to Kalaignar TV, in which DMK MP Kanimozhi holds 20% stake.
The CBI said Morani took six crore for facilitating this Rs 200 crore transaction.
Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra, appearing for Morani, submitted that the CBI should not oppose the bail plea of his client as they had not arrested him during the investigation of the case.
He said that Morani has no links with the public servants who are among the accused in the case.
CBI, in its second charge sheet in 2G case, had alleged Swan Telecom and Dynamix Realty Promoters Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka channeled Rs 200 crore to DMK-run Kalaignar TV through Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd and Morani’s Cineyug Films Pvt Ltd.
