Jammu and Kashmir, June 04, 2016: Three soldiers were killed and five others injured, one of them critically, as terrorists ambushed an Army convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district today.
The terrorists, believed to be at least three in number, opened fire at the 23-vehicle convoy of the Border Security Force in Bejbehara town, 52 km from Srinagar, on the Jammu-Srinagar state highway. The soldiers were returning to duty from leave.
Two soldiers died on the spot and the third succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital, in an attack which has been claimed by terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen.
"It’s an unfortunate incident. The BSF convoy was attacked on the national highway by terrorists who fired at it from the by-lanes near Bijbehara," Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police K Rajendra said.
