New Delhi, June 9, 2024: PM Narendra Modi will be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term today. While the entire council of ministers won’t be taking the oath, around 30 ministers are expected to do so, according to a report. The full council of ministers is anticipated to have between 78 and 81 members.

Following PM Modi, the top ministers responsible for crucial portfolios such as home, defense, finance, and external affairs—held by the BJP—will take their oaths. Additionally, ministers for key infrastructure sectors like steel, civil aviation, and coal are likely to be sworn in.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled from 7:15 to 8 PM, lasting approximately 45 minutes. Ministers expected to take the oath will start receiving calls from the government this morning.

Leaders from the BJP’s NDA allies, some expected to receive key ministries, will also be taking the oath. Reports suggest that the TDP may receive four ministerial posts and the JDU two, though it is unclear if all will be sworn in today.

Several foreign dignitaries will attend the event, including Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ’Prachanda’, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Seychelles Vice-President Ahmed Afif.
