38 Monkeys poisoned, stuffed in gunny bags and beaten to death in Hassan district

Hassan, Jul 29, 2021: A shocking incident of animal cruelty has come to light in Chowdanahalli village of Karnataka’s Hassan district. More than 35 monkeys were found killed and 20 others injured in the district’s Chowdanahalli village.

 

According to officials, the monkeys were poisoned, stuffed in gunny bags, beaten and thrown on the roadside near Chowdanahalli by some miscreants. The 20 monkeys injured in the barbaric act were immediately provided with water by the villagers.

Curious to see gunny bags lying on the roadside, passersby were shocked to see what was inside when they opened them.Some of the villagers said that the monkeys could have been assaulted after being stuffed in gunny bags. The few that were alive were gasping for breath and were unable to move.Senior forest officials visited the spot and have begun an investigation. They have taken necessary steps to bury the dead monkeys. Preliminary reports suggest the monkeys were poisoned, police said.
