4 CRPF jawans killed, 3 injured after colleague opens fire in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma; probe ordered

New Delhi, Nov 08, 2021: As many as four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed and three others were injured after a jawan opened fire on fellow soldiers in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.

 

In a case of fratricide, the jawan, identified as Reetesh Ranjan, opened fire on fellow soldiers at around 3.45 am in the camp of the CRPF 50th battalion in Linganpalli village under Maraiguda police station of the area of the district, located nearly 400 km from the state capital Raipur, according to an official statement.

According to preliminary information, the jawan fired at his colleagues with his service weapon, an AK-47 rifle, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.

Seven personnel were seriously injured in the incident and were immediately rushed to Bhadrachalam area hospital for treatment. Four of them succumbed to their injuries.

Those killed were identified as constables Rajmani Kumar Yadav, Rajib Mondal, Dhanji and Dharmendra Kumar.

Two injured CRPF personnel are reportedly being airlifted to Raipur for treatment.

"The motive behind the firing is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is on into the incident," the official said.

Constable Reetesh Ranjan was immediately held and his interrogation is underway, the official said.

Following the incident, the CRPF has ordered a court of inquiry to investigate the matter.
