New Delhi, Jun 09, 2018 : Four wanted criminals, including the kingpin of their gang, were killed in an encounter in south Delhi’s Chhatarpur, police said. The police had information about their movement in the area and they launched an operation this morning in which four members of the Rajesh Bharti gang were killed.
Rajesh Bharti, who had a reward of Rs. 1 lakh on him, was also killed in the encounter, an officer said. Six Delhi police personnel were also injured in the gunfight that followed at a Chhatarpur farmhouse where they were hiding.
Rajesh Bharti had escaped police custody in Haryana. Many serious cases had been registered against him and the police had been looking for him for quite some time.
The other three who were killed in the encounter have been identified as Vidroh, Umesh Don and Bhiku, the police said.
The special cell personnel had been keeping a close watch on the farmhouse for the last two to three months. This morning when they went to arrest them, the gang members opened fire. The accused were severely injured in retaliatory firing and taken to the nearby hospital where they died of their injuries, an officer said.
All of them were named as accused in several murder and extortion cases.
