The test reports of several others are awaited.

Meanwhile, at the Delhi High Court, at least four judges and several staff members have tested positive for Covid-19.

This comes even as the courts have switched to online hearings on account of a surge in Covid cases. On January 2, the Supreme Court decided to conduct all hearings virtually for two weeks from January 3 onwards.

A Covid-19 testing facility has been set up at the Supreme Court premises. It is functional from Monday to Saturday.

“To contain the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus infection and sudden upsurge in the cases of Omicron variant, it is reiterated that the entrants to the Supreme Court premises, i.e. the registry staff, staff of the coordinate agencies, advocates and their staff etc., particularly those who may be showing any symptom(s) similar to those notified for Covid-19 infection, may kindly get themselves tested at the facility,” a circular read.

In light of the spike in cases, the Supreme Court Bar Association has asked lawyers to avoid going to court premises. The association also informed that the Supreme Court registry will issue helpline numbers for lawyers on Monday.Delhi registered 22,751 fresh Covid cases and 17 deaths in 24 hours on Sunday, taking the number of active cases in the city to 60,733.
