New Delhi, Feb 14, 2024: On the fifth anniversary of the Pulwama terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday remembered the fallen jawans and said their “sacrifice for our nation will always be remembered”. In a heinous suicide attack in 2019, 40 Indian security personnel were killed after Pakistan-linked terrorists rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into their convoy.
Taking to X, the prime minister said, “Remembering our valorous heroes who we lost on this day in Pulwama.”I pay homage to the brave heroes who were martyred in Pulwama. Their service and sacrifice for our nation will always be remembered.”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid tributes to the personnel who lost their life in the attack.
“Salutes and humble tribute to the brave martyrs of the Pulwama terrorist attack. The country will always be indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice dedicated to the defence of India,” the Congress leader said in a post on X.
On 14 February 2019, 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed after terrorists targeted a convoy of 78 vehicles, transporting more than 2,500 CRPF personnel from Jammu to Srinagar. The attack, attributed to Pakistan-based and aided terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), was led by an internationally proscribed terrorist, Masood Azhar.
In a retributive strike, the Indian Air Force had bombed suspected terrorist camps in Pakistan’s Balakot.
