Manesar, June 21: A five-year-old girl who fell into a borewell near her house in Manesar late last night has still not been rescued. 50 army men are trying to dig a tunnel to reach her. Authorities have also arranged for cameras to be installed to help track her movements. They have also called in the National Security Guards (NSG) for help.
The girl, Mahi Upadhyay, fell into the 50-feet deep borewell in Khaow village in Manesar near Gurgaon at around 11 pm. She had just turned five yesterday.
"We were celebrating her birthday and she was playing when her feet slipped and she fell into the borewell. I then called up the police. She fell around 11pm and I could hear her cry out for help till around 12:30 am. She has been silent after that," said her father Neeraj Upadhyay.
A health department official present at the spot said oxygen was being continuously supplied to the minor to ensure that she has no difficulty in breathing. He however gave no clear word about her medical condition.
"Oxygen is being provided to the girl. But we are unable to say what the exact condition of the girl is. We are now making efforts to extract information through a camera. We are hopeful that our efforts are going on well," said Punit Garg , the Chief Medical Officer of Gurgaon.
Authorities say an investigation has been ordered to ascertain why the borewell was left open.
