7 Dead, 45 missing after massive landslide in Manipur’s Noney

Manipur, June 30, 2022: Seven people have lost their lives while 45 others are missing after a massive landslide in Manipur’s Noney district. The landslide took place around midnight on Wednesday and struck the company location of 107 Territorial Army of Indian Army deployed near Tupul Railway Station for protection of under construction railway line from Jiribam to Imphal, a press release said.

The landslide triggered by incessant rains caused damage to Tupul station building of ongoing Jiribam – Imphal new line project and also stuck the track formation, camps of construction workers, rescue operations in progress, NF Railway CPRO said.

Rescue operations are underway in Noney  and Chief Minister N Biren Singh is in constant touch for the same. So far, 19 people have been rescued and are being treated at Noney Army Medical unit.

Meanwhile, flight operations were hit as monsoon entered Delhi and brought heavy rain for the Delhiites on Thursday morning, also bringing along the much-needed relief from the scorching heatwave.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation in Manipur and also spoke to CM Biren Singh.

“Spoke to Manipur CM Shri @NBirenSingh Ji and reviewed the situation due to a tragic landslide. Assured all possible support from the Centre. I pray for the safety of all those affected. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon," the PM tweeted.
