Khandwa, Oct 01: Seven prisoners escaped from a jail early Tuesday morning after stabbing two policemen in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district, nearly 300 km from Bhopal.

Six of the men belong to the Students Islamic Movement of India or SIMI, which was banned in 2001 over its alleged terror links.

The prisoners reportedly sneaked out at around 3 am, after breaking the wall of a toilet, and scaled the boundary wall of the jail.

Two constables who tried to stop them were attacked with a knife and wounded. The prisoners also reportedly snatched their rifles.

Reports suggest that one of the prisoners, Abid Ansari, has been caught, but the police have not confirmed it. Ansari is accused of planting a bomb at a hospital two years ago.

The daring jailbreak has come has a huge embarrassment to the Madhya Pradesh police, which have launched a massive combing operation in the surrounding areas.
