The incident took place on Thursday, August 18, when some people ‘gheraoed’ the car of Siddaramaiah, raised slogans against him, showed him black flags and threw eggs at his car.

The arrested people were Manu, Krishnappa, Manjunatha, Nityananda, Praveena, Gautham, Bhaskara Naik, Manikantha, Lakshmi Narayan. Following the arrest, police produced the accused before Kushalnagar JMFC Court where they were released on bail.

Siddaramaiah faced the ire of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Youth Wing activists here on Thursday for his alleged statement questioning the need for the Hindutva activists to put up Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar’s photograph in a Muslim area in Shivamogga, which led to the clashes a few days ago.

The Kodagu unit of the BJP Youth Wing also shared posts on social media, which read, “Siddu Khan enters Kodagu — Kodagu defiled.” “Go back Siddu Khan, the disciple of Tipu Sultan who carried out genocide in Kodagu.” Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd at Guddehosur near Kodagu border. Due to the resultant tense situation, police took a few of the protesters into custody.
Reacting to the incident, Siddaramaiah said the protest was an act of miscreants.
