Ahmedabad, Oct 3: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi had been throwing barbs at Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi over the last 10 years. Here’s a look at the barbs Modi had thrown at the Gandhi family over the years:
1. During the 2002 Gujarat election campaign Modi attacked Sonia Gandhi saying (a) why is Sonia Gandhi opposing Jagannath yatra in Ahmedabad? (b) Sonia Gandhi doesn’t know whether green chilly is cultivated or red chilly is cultivated.
2. Modi once made a huge blunder in 2004 during Advani’s Bharat Uday Yatra by calling Sonia Gandhi a "Jersey cow". He later apologized.
3. In the 2002 election. Sonia Gandhi had attacked Modi by saying , "kuchh log Gandhi ke Gujarat ko Godse ka Gujarat banaane mein lage hue hai.", to which Modi alleged that Sonia Gandhi has insulted Gandhi’s Gujarat.
4. During the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Modi raised the issue of Sonia’s foreign origin and asked: "If a person from India cannot become the prime minister of Italy, how can a person from Italy can become prime minister of India?"
5. On September 17 this year, Modi said : " Rahul is an international leader, he can contest elections from Italy also"
6. On the diesel & LPG price hike, Modi attacked Sonia on Sept 14, saying she was not at all concerned about the interest of women.
7. On September 15, Modi remarked on FDI issue saying, FDI in retail has been allowed to benefit traders from Italy.
8. The latest barb related to Sonia Gandhi’s foreign trips, in which Modi alleged that Rs 1880 crore were spent from government money on Sonia’s foreign tours and treatment. Modi had to retract later, but he asked the government to furnish particulars on money spent on the Congress leader’s foreign tours and treatment.
