New Delhi, July 15, 2015: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government would be naming Swati Maliwal as the next chief of Delhi Commission for Women.

AAP leader

A former India Against Corruption (IAC) activist, Swati is married to party’s Haryana leader Naveen Jaihind who is considered a close associate of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Presently, she is the advisor (grievances) to the Delhi CM.

Swati would be replacing the current DCW chief Barkha Shukla Singh who shares a tense relation with the party. On reports of Swati succeeding her, Barkha said the reality of AAP is coming out. "This is an important position which needs mature and experienced person," she said.

She added the party is anti-women and with the appointment the party will suppress the old cases.

Former AAP leader Prashant Bhushan took to Twitter and criticised the decision saying the party is misusing their power. Bhushan said, "DCW is an organisation that has to function in a transparent manner. The chief has to be unbiased and neutral."
