New Delhi, Dec 13, 2013: The political deadlock in Delhi continues with fresh elections almost certain in the national capital. The AAP has now said that it will not form a government in Delhi. The party is likely to turn down Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung’s offer to form a government on Saturday.

AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said that party chief Arvind Kejriwal will meet the Lt Governor on Saturday and explain to him that AAP cannot for the government since it does not have the numbers.

After the BJP’ CM candidate Hardh Vardhan turned down the Lt Governor’s offer, the Aam Admi Party was invited to form a government in Delhi.

The Delhi polls threw up a fractured mandate with no party securing majority in the 70-member assembly and BJP emerging as the single largest party with 32 seats. BJP’s ally Akali Dal has one MLA. AAP has got 28 seats in the assembly followed by Congress’s eight. JD-U has won one seat while Mundka seat has gone to an Independent.

As no party seems to have the numbers, it seems Delhi is headed for President’s Rule and then re-election. After the meeting, Harsh Vardhan said, "I have informed Najeeb Jung about my views, we don’t have the numbers and we are four short of majority and hence we won’t form the government."

"It is better that we sit in opposition and continue to work for the betterment of the people. We will form government only after we get a clear mandate," Vardhan added.
