Agnivesh attacked twice en route to Dantewada

Mangalore Today News Network

Raipur, May 27:  Social activist Swami Agnivesh was assaulted and twice prevented from visiting three villages in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada where the police allegedly burnt houses, sexually assaulted women and killed five men between March 11 and 16.

A crowd abused and physically obstructed Agnivesh and two Art of Living teachers accompanying him at Dornapal, around 50-70km away from the affected area, when he was on his way there to distribute relief. He tried to visit the area again in the evening along with journalists. Eyewitnesses said vehicles carrying the group were stoned. Journalists were assaulted and their cameras broken, they said.

’’This (the first attack) was a stage-managed attack,’’ alleged Agnivesh. He said it was apparent that the police wanted to obstruct any probe into its excesses.
