The idea for the all-women station first came from Central Railway General Manager D K Sharma and he commissioned it in June 2017.

Women staffers are posted across all departments - operating, commercial, Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police - to make it first of its kind station on Indian Railway.

Forty one women staffers, including 17 booking clerks, 6 RPF personnel, 8 ticket checkers, 5 point persons, 2 announcers and 2 sweepers are working under the supervision of station manager Mamta Kulkarni.

Incidentally, Mamta is the first woman assistant station master to be recruited on Mumbai Division of Central Railway in 1992.

The staff has been handling overall operations of the railway station round-the-clock for the past six months and results are positive and encouraging.

"The idea is the creation of an environment for women where they can make the decision of their own for their personal and professional well being, organisational good, notwithstanding," Sunil Udasi, CR spokesperson, said.

From the station master to booking clerk to ticket-checkers to cops, all are ladies here and they have been efficiently managing the station.
