New Delhi, April 19, 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah recalled his journey from being a booth karyakarta (worker) in Gujarat to a Member of Parliament as he filed his nomination from Gandhinagar on Friday. Amit Shah said it was a matter of pride that the seat was represented by BJP stalwarts like LK Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The veteran BJP leader has represented Gandhinagar as an MLA and then as an MP for 30 years.
Shah was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel when he submitted the nomination papers to Gandhinagar collector and district election officer in the state capital at 12:39 pm exactly, considered as ’Vijay Muhurat’.

Addressing the media after filing his nomination, Shah said developmental works worth Rs 22,000 crore were sanctioned in Gandhinagar in the last five years.
"It is a matter of pride for me that this seat was represented by LK Advani, Atal ji and the seat where Narendra Modi himself is a voter. I have been an MLA and MP from this seat for 30 years. The people of this region have given me immense love," he said.
FROM BOOTH WORKER TO HOME MINISTER
Brought up in a village in Gujarat’s Maansa, Amit Shah has been credited for turning the BJP into an election-winning machine.
From a very young age, Amit Shah was inspired by the RSS. Shah started going to RSS shakhas since 1980, when he was 16. He joined the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the RSS, in 1983.
Before joining the ABVP, Shah worked as a booth-level worker in Naranpura area, pasting the BJP’s posters on walls.
Shah joined the BJP in 1984-85. His astute political mind and skills as an organiser were noted, and he was soon appointed the national treasurer of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
The big break in Amit Shah’s political career came in 1991.
That year, Shah was appointed the election campaign manager of LK Advani in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. Advani won the seat comfortably and was impressed with Shah’s election management.
Since then, there has been no looking back for him. Shah also became a trusted lieutenant of Narendra Modi when he became the Gujarat Chief Minister.
In 2014, Shah was made the BJP national president and five years later, he was promoted as the Home Minister.
