This is the second crude bomb blast in the vicinity of the Golden Temple in nearly 24 hours.

The incident happened at around 6.30 am. The police, including police commissioner, and forensic teams have reached the spot and are collecting the samples for examination.

Panic gripped the Heritage Street residents near the Golden Temple on Saturday night in which one person sustained injuries. The blast was heard within one-km radius of the Golden Temple and glass facades of some buildings were damaged in an explosion.

The explosion, the cause of which is yet to be known, was reported near an eating joint late on Saturday, police told PTI.

Karandeep Singh, a devotee who was present at the spot, said a few girls travelling in an auto-rickshaw were hit by shards of glass and sustained minor injuries after the explosion. The girls had come from Haryana’s Panchkula to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple, he said.

Earlier, a police official said that the blast apparently occurred in a chimney of a restaurant at the Heritage Street. He said further investigations were underway.

The Amritsar police said, "A news related to blasts in Amritsar is going viral on social media, the situation is under control. Investigation is on to establish the facts of the incident and there is no need to panic. Urge citizens to maintain peace and harmony, advise all to fact-check before sharing."
