Anshu Malik makes sexual harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan Singh

New Delhi, Jan 20, 2023: Commonwealth Games medallist, wrestler Anshu Malik has alleged that Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Singh made every single girl uncomfortable whenever he was around on the camps and during competitions. Malik, while speaking to the media in New Delhi, levelled fresh allegations against the WFI president and said that he used to sleep on the same hotel floor as the junior girls.

 

“WFI president stayed on the same floor and across the room from the junior girls at the Junior World Championships. He would leave his door open. Every girl was made uncomfortable,” said the 21-year-old Malik.

“We want the federation removed,” Malik added.

Vinesh Phogat, one of the most celebrated wrestlers in India, said that more girls have come out against the president since they started the protests and are ready to put out evidence. Phogat said that they wanted the perpetrators to resign and that failing to do so will have consequences. The wrestler threatened that the athletes are ready to take the members of the federation to jail.

"We are here because we are speaking the truth. We had one or two girls with us who had been sexually harassed and now more girls have come forward. If we are pushed further, we will make sure that we send the perpetrators to jail. We want them to resign and a commission be set up for a probe," said Phogat.

Indian wrestlers have already met with sports minister Anurag Thakur and demanded the resignation of the WFI president. They are expected to hold more meetings with the sports minister on Friday.
