Arvind Kejriwal arrested to divert attention from poll bonds: Pinarayi Vijayan

Mangalore Today News Network

Kannur, Mar 25, 2024: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on Sunday, said that Arvind Kejriwal was arrested in an attempt to divert the attention of the people from the electoral bonds case.

Vijayan went on to say that the government (Centre) knew that the details of electoral bonds would create a big problem.

"The central government, BJP, Sangh Parivar knows that. So to divert the attention of the nation from all this, Delhi’s Chief Minister was arrested. This is a hint as to where our country is leading to. He is in Jail now. We can do anything and are not bothered by anybody is the attitude carried by the Sangh Parivar led BJP government here," Vijayan alleged.

"This situation of our country needs to be addressed seriously," he added.

Vijayan further asserted that the CPI(M) was never ready to accept electoral bonds in the first place and that this was the biggest corruption scam that the country has ever witnessed.

Speaking further on the arrest of his Delhi counterpart, Vijayan said the Sangh Parivar (RSS) was looking to convey a message that they are above the country’s law and will leave no stones unturned in order to push their agenda ahead.

Meanwhile, addressing his party supporters during the speech, the chief minister took a dig at Union Minister Anurag Thakur in connection with his ’inflammatory slogans’ during anti-CAA protests of 2019 and the subsequent violence and riot in Delhi, saying it was the CPI(M) which went on to file a case against him.

Vijayan did not spare the Congress too over its stand on the CAA alleging that its MPs were participating in a feast while the people were carrying out protests.

"During the protests, Rahul Gandhi was abroad. It was the Left leaders who were arrested by the Delhi Police. At that time, we had only one MP, AM Arif from Alappuzha who spoke against the CAA. Now, the Congress leaders are saying that they had opposed the Act technically," Vijayan said.

The contentious CAA was passed in December 2019, with many opposition parties speaking out against the law, calling it "discriminatory".

The CAA aims to provide Indian citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014.
