Arvind Kejriwal claims BJP distributing gold chains for votes

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, January 14, 2025: AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday made a sensational allegation that his rival BJP has distributed gold chains to residents of two colonies in Delhi seeking their votes in the Delhi Assembly elections besides giving money, blankets, sarees, and bedsheets in other places.

Amid a complaint against Chief Minister Atishi claiming that she used a government vehicle for campaigning, Kejriwal said it is becoming clear that the AAP is headed to form a stable government with clear majority and the BJP, “surrendering its weapons as it has no narrative, no vision and no Chief Minister face”, is resorting to illegal means to woo voters.

Addressing a press conference, he alleged that BJP leaders who feel that their party is not winning are pocketing a substantial part of the money given by party leadership to distribute to voters, and this has triggered anger among people.

"If Rs 10,000 is to be given to a voter, the BJP leader is pocketing Rs 9,000 and only giving the rest to the voter. When people come to know about this, they are asking them about it," he said.

"In some colonies, blankets are distributed while in others they are not distributed. People are fighting with BJP and those who confront them in BJP offices are getting it. They openly distribute money, sarees, and blankets. Gold chains were distributed in 1-2 colonies. The BJP is openly saying they will buy votes," he said. He did not divulge the locations.

Appealing to people to take the money being offered, he said those distributing doles to buy votes are “traitors”.

“Take all their money but prove to them that you cannot be bought. I appeal to people of Delhi to not vote for anyone, including AAP candidates, if they distribute money, blankets, bedsheets," he said.

Referring to the complaint against Atishi, he said BJP leaders are openly seeking to buy votes but not even an FIR has been registered against them.

"This rotten system has to be changed and cleaned together with the people. Both BJP and Congress are part of the same rotten system," he said. Police said they have registered a case against a PWD official who used an official vehicle for campaigning though they initially received a complaint against Atishi.

AAP Rajya Sabha floor leader Sanjay Singh said the Election Commission is silent due to the terror unleashed by the BJP and referred to the complaints against BJP candidate Parvesh Verma, who is accused of distributing money, specs, and bedsheets. He demanded that the District Magistrate and police officials be suspended while referring to Atishi’s case.
