Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody extended till September 3

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, August 27, 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody was extended till September 3 in connection with the excise policy case.

Arvind Kejriwal was produced before a Delhi court on Tuesday through video conferencing. The extension of judicial custody comes in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case against the Delhi Chief Minister.

Arvind Kejriwal Custody extended

Kejriwal was arrested by the enforcement directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the excise policy case on March 21. He was granted bail from the trial court in ED’s case against him on June 20.

The trial court’s bail order was, however, struck down by the Delhi High Court on June 21. Arvind Kejriwal then approached the Supreme Court on June 22 against the High Court order.

Then, on June 26, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI in the excise policy case.

Later, the Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal on July 11 in the money laundering case filed by the ED.

Arvind Kejriwal has filed petitions in the Supreme Court seeking bail and challenging the arrest by the CBI. The Supreme Court will take up the matter on September 5.

Meanwhile, the CBI has defended the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, telling the Supreme Court that it was necessary as the Delhi Chief Minister chose to remain “evasive and non-cooperative” in his replies to questions about his role in the alleged excise policy scam.
