New Delhi, Feb 02, 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will not appear before the Enforcement Directorate today, as he has decided to skip the 5th summons by the central agency in the liquor policy case. The Aam Admi Party (AAP) said that the repeated summons are attempts to arrest him.

The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday issued a fresh and the fifth summons to the AAP supremo after he skipped four earlier summonses issued by the agency over the last four months. The Delhi Chief Minister maintained that the summons were "illegal".
The party called the summons "Modi ji’s aim is to arrest Kejriwal" and added the Prime Minister "wants to topple the Delhi government by arresting him".

"We will never let this happen," AAP said in a statement.

Kejriwal skipped ED summonses for November 2 and December 21 in 2023 and January 3 and January 18 this year.

According to the Enforcement Directorate, the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 to grant licences to liquor traders allowed cartelisation and favoured certain dealers who had allegedly paid bribes for it.

AAP-BJP PROTESTS IN DELHI

Both AAP and BJP has planned simultaneous protests in the national capital today. Security has been stepped-up in Central Delhi with the deployment of additional personnel in view of the demonstrations.

The AAP will stage a protest outside the BJP headquarters over alleged cheating in the Chandigarh mayoral polls. Kejriwal is scheduled to participate in a protest along with his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann.

Meanwhile, the BJP has said its members will protest near the AAP head office against the "corruption" of the Arvind Kejriwal government.
