Jakarta, Aug 22, 2018 : Rahi Sarnobat claimed India’s second gold medal in shooting at the Asian Games 2018 as she won the top prize in Women’s 25m Pistol after two rounds of shoot-off on Wednesday. Manu Bhaker finished sixth.
Sarnobat shot an Asian Games record score of 34 and although Thailand’s Naphaswan Yangpaiboon provided tough challenge to the Indian shooter, she was able to clinch the title after two rounds of shoot-off.
In the process, she also became the first Indian woman shooter to win an Asian Games gold medal as both Rahi and Yangpaiboon shot four out of five shots in the first shoot-off but the Indian prevailed over her opponent by missing one less in the second round.
On the other hand, it turned out to be a disappointing outing for the fancied Manu Bhaker, as the 16-year-old finished sixth after entering the final with a qualification games record score of 593.
Sarnobat is a veteran of the sport and the 27-year old won bronze in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. In the Commonwealth Games, she has won three medals till date – gold (2010, 2014) and silver (2010).
When it comes to shooting at the Asian Games 2018, India has been a force to be reckoned with and Day 4 was nothing different. Manu Bhaker confirmed her spot in the 25m Pistol final with a Games record score of 593 while Rahi Sarnobat finished seventh with the score of 580.
