New Delhi, Oct 8, 2023: India finished its campaign at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, with a total of 107 medals, its biggest-ever haul at a single edition.
The curtains were brought down on a memorable Asian Games with the celebration of the athletes’ stupendous feats and China’s cultural heritage at a colourful and technologically mesmerising closing ceremony here on Sunday.
The medal haul comprised 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze with the country achieving its best performance in terms of specific colours as well.
Shooting fetched India the most number of gold medals (seven) followed by athletics (six) and archery (five).Compound archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale won the most gold medals (three) for the country.
Lauding the Indian contingent for its unparalleled success at the 19th Asian Games, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the "unwavering determination, relentless spirit and hard work" of the players and said, "The entire nation is overjoyed with the highest-ever total of 107 medals, the best ever performance in the last 60 years".
