Assam polls: Man divorces wife after she votes for BJP

Assam, April 15, 2016: In a bizarre turn of events a Muslim man reportedly divorced his wife in an Assam village when she decided to vote for BJP, going against the village diktat to vote for Congress during the state Assembly elections.
The incident, reported in Assam’s regional newspapers, took place in a village named Donam Addahati in Sonitpur district, where the village heads apparently have a strong inclination towards the Congress.
The village leaders are said to have passed a diktat that made it mandatory for the villagers to vote for Congress.
However, one Dilwara Begum, wife of Ainuddin, decided to defy the order and cast her vote in favour of BJP candidate Pramod Borathakur.
When she reportedly informed her husband about the decision, he, in a fit of anger, decided to divorce her and end their marriage of 10 years.
